Palm Harbor Survives Dunedin, Now Eyes East Lake

Palm Harbor Survives Dunedin, Now Eyes East Lake

THE GAME STORY

DUNEDIN– It’s been a tough week for the Palm Harbor football team, and that coupled with an upstart Dunedin team made for a nail-biting win for the Hurricanes in a game that was expected to not be close.

The Falcons weren’t cool with giving away a win, and they certainly didn’t.

PHU PLAYOFF OUTLOOK (WILL UPDATE TONIGHT/NOV 1): The Break Down to Postseason

With three minutes left in the game, PHU (4-5) found itself pinned deep within its own territory and down by two points — and then senior running back Jaxon Wilson did what he’s made a habit of doing in big games all year, he busted loose for a 87-yard touchdown run. Senior teammate Brady Messick added the two-point conversion and PHU held on to get a 22-16 win in a game that was originally supposed to be played at Palm Harbor University HS.

PHU has hosted only one football game this year because of field issues and the way the schedule rolled out. Friday was supposed to be senior night, where the program recognizes the veterans. That wasn’t possible, but then Dunedin invited PHU to do the ceremony on the Falcons’ field (see preview story below).

But aside from being friendly off the field, there wasn’t anything friendly about how Dunedin competed to try to take a win away from PHU for the first time since 2014.
